This is why I play the Nintendo Wii. It doesn't have to look all neat, but it plays out really really well. At least the games I play.

The anime is awesome though.
Didn't really look at the game.

The days seem to be gone where you can tell what character you are looking at by looking at just its silhouette - http://www.sporcle.com/games/Calavera s/cartoon_silhouettes .

Compared to generic soldier #42

yo im sure that game sucks (i have ads blocked because im not a faggot) but you drawing your generic faggot faces over them doesnt make it any better

BURN

[Insert witty comment for attention here]

Story is very important to me if the game is supposed to have a good one. Interesting characters however are what really make a game or a movie or a book for that matter. The story could be brilliant but if you have stereotypical bland characters solving the problems of the story it loses any charm it might have had. That's why I haven't touched very many games for my PS3. I haven't seen many that had a variety of character personalities that I thought would be interesting to explore and learn about. Granted I haven't looked extremely hard because I've been fine playing old PC games for now.

Uncharted and Heavy Rain dawg

Yeah it's pretty retarded. But hey, less competition for us.

Personally, my favorite type of game is one that is heavily based around character and plot, but still has enjoyable gameplay. The reason Oblivion and Fallout 3 are my favorite games is because the player decides who the character is, what he does, and how he interacts with the world around him. This causes the player to grow attached to the character. The design is so well done, that most of the time the character doesnt actually have a certain expression on his face. For most of the time, the player does not see the characters face in these games, in order for the player to feel as if he or she was the character in the game.

Games that have preset character and plot, such as resident evil 4, are also awesome. The player doesnt necessarily decide who the character is in Resident Evil 4, but he/she still decides the characters fate and grows attached to him.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that most of the time the player should develop the characters personality in order to feel more attached to the character in the game so that the plot matters to the player and not just blowing shit up.

what's wrong with just blowing shit up personally I find it to be a riot

i get an ad for nikita killzone

and its a real photograph of a woman with a gun. not even drawn or cgi

NG has ads?

Hadn't noticed.

Personally, I'm my opinion, just saying, I think I'm gay.

It's like food. MSG makes food taste better, but only works if the food already tasted somewhat good in the first place. A great story can really enhance a game but the core game needs to be good already for it to work.

I kind of disagree with this. I think that unless a game has a decent story, I won't enjoy it at all. For example, Bioshock is my favourite game and that has an amazing story AND awesome characters. I think that a game should have a balance of both of these. How are we supposed to relate to the characters if they themselves don't have a story either?

Not sure where games like Sam & Max or Full Throttle fit into the equation, but I think the advent of "realistic human renderings" bled into into the cracks of numerous arenas where it simply wasn't needed, including realistic story progressions with realistic relationships ... sadly, all this realism has the ability to water down even the most spectacular fantasies.

In general, the masses like eye candy, tech-pushers like eye candy ... sadly, a lot of eye candy has nothing to do with heart. On the whole, they're not looking characters to live ... they're looking for characters to be shiny, badass, and own a well textured wardrobe of flattering attire. Thinking about the pitch ... it's fairly transparent...

"We've got this great story! Filled with the most cutting edge rendered characters!"
"But what about the characters?"
"What about them ... ?"
"Will I like them? WIll they be memorable?"
"Who the f*ck cares if you like them? They can rack up a thousand kill combos and own an arsenal of weapons that makes the Matrix look like BubbleBobble!"

That said, there are some games where I want characters ... and some games where I want game play ... like Final Fantasy Tactics ... though, I think Vagrant Story had a nice mix of both.

PS. I have no idea what I just wrote.

Finalfantasy 9's characters were drawn like cartoons. It really made them each stand out amongst the other characters. Truly these characters were the funnest to look at between 7, 8, 9.

But the reason I liked any of them was because one had a cooler story among the other. I really like Vivi because he had to deal with mortality way before anyone else, and Steiner because he had to reform his entire life direction and start being himself. Crazy stuff.

Anyway, I'm just trying to say that none of these aspects should be skipped when making a game. And there's my two cents.

3d flash..is getting shittier and shittier.. its fucking..gay. the creator of icescape and the night before.. He actually knew how to make a good game...but like you said no expressions.. just plain no smilling faces.. SOMEONE MAKE A FUCKING DECENT 3D GAME FOR ONCE!!

hehe I like the samurai guy already
