sengoku basaras a tv show
It's a shame that they don't make the ads or the characters on the ads have more personality. We have the technology to make the CGI characters be able to have intricate facial expressions, so why not use it, CAPCOM?! Every ad that features 3D characters in it does it, and it really is annoying. I can't even forgive FFXIII for having terrible magazine ads. You could make Lightning look a little more angry you know. Now, there was one ad of FFXIII that was particularly interesting, where Sazh was smiling and everyone was just so chill...it was kind of a good piece. Why don't they go with that more often?
I agree with you, but disagree. If thedevelopers worry about the story, but the characters look like they could care less, i agree that there should be some changes. But i have to disagree with the part about NO characters having any personality. True, there is a lot of shitty games, but there are some good ones where the characters have a lot of personality and character (Take Dante from Dante's inferno for example; he lost his chic and you could see the sadness in his face in the cutscenes as you played the game). Some characters aren't supposed to have emotion, too. Kratos had almost no emotion in the God of War series, but that made him even more of a badass that way. Some characters do need personality, but sometimes it's a good thing. Just saying,
a good efing they don't have emotion, i mean.
true true.......................
sounds more like a cliche by the way
WHERES METAL GEAR AWESOME 3
what is this game for?... isaw some of your art on your site its awesome lol well anyways i see you like megaman and dbz too.
You have a point. The good games are few and far between. I quit playing MMORPGS after WoW, and I can't see anything in the near future making me change my mind. Starcraft 2 was and still is a blast to play, but you have to be into RTS, which most people aren't. I think the original ideas are getting kicked to the curb.
Everyone has to have a "theme" for their games. Halo has Spartans. Mario has A Copy Of Every Game Ever Made With Mario Slapped On The Box *seriously, even Tetris*. Zelda is about fairies, triforces, and 16 items you HAVE to find to fight Gannon. The only big ticket games that come out are tie-ins to movies that are sure to bomb.
It is only going to get worse now that the consoles are coming out with "interactive devices". The last thing the Big 3 needs is to make sucky games require more effort to play *I'm talking to you, Xbox and PS3*.
I miss the good ol' days. Like the day I first set my eyes on an NES, thanks to some door to door salesman who came out to the middle of nowhere to try to sell to my parents. The first game I ever played was P.O.W. and it rocked my socks off. I played Mario second, Skate or Die third... then fast forward to today, where I just sat through the suckfest that is Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2... Who in the hell wants to play a game where you spend 99% of your time watching other people get to play while you wait for the round to end???
Thats why it is up to guys like you to make the games that need to be put out there. Newgrounds is a great way to get some good stuff made, and I don't mean Toms' games... Sorry, but porting Alien Hominid to a console was an utter waste of time.
Ego, try this out... Work on a game about a gamer. Why should a game just be an RTS/RPG/Shooter/Sim/Other Cliched Stereotype. Why not do them all, slap on a bit of gamer humor, and see if it sells? The market is practically begging for it right now.
You've got a great voice, and there are plenty of guys on Newgrounds that could contribute some great content. Call it "The Newgrounds Game For Gamers By Gamers." When it makes it big, give me a nice little 1% for the idea, and I'll be cool with that.
Ego, you are totally wright about character nowdays who don't have personality. I think a good story, some basic script about "what the hell is going on" is good for games; if we go waaay back to the original Mario, he had to save the princess from Bowser, end of the story, that was perfect. I think that having a simple story is totally perfect for videogames, but the things they do now is like a 40-hours-movie with lots of plot twists and crap.
Now, the characters, no-personality. You are damn right. It's like if videogame corporations not care about they clients (us) anymore, they just release anything for making money. If you see Prince of Persia (Sands of Times, Warrior Whitin, The Two Thrones), the character have a story (not so simple), and he get to kill lots sand-infected monster hordes; if you see Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, the Prince is not so cool, his personallity is almost neutral, his reactions are like emotionless (in Sands of Time he was a childish teen, the next one chronollogicaly is Forgotten Sands, and then comes Warrior Whiting where the Prince is a rage-glazed badass moron, and then in The Two Thrones he fight against his anger and turn into a less-moron dabass/ninja/nice guy).
And, Ego, great work drawing those faces btw, they are awesome! (emotionless Awesome Basara maybe? xD)
you do have a good point there... somewhen i wondered about why i prefer the old games.
in the past you could be a fan of a game or hero, like earthworm jim, mario or even cloud (though i never liked that whiney a**hole)
realism isnt everything, go and tell them. now. GO!
hey guy i was just gonna comment and say that maybe you could consider using my voice acting in an animation you probably don't read your comments often and im sure you already have lines upon lines asking this kind of thing but i just wanted to throw it out there so you can PM me on Newgounds My NG account name is GhostShellCommand thanks for considering it
you're right man. Games today just don't feel like they use to and aren't the same. If anything games today have become a First person shooter nightmare. I hardly see anymore awesome single player games with memorable characters or even a really in depth story for that matter.
On a different note Ninja's theory new game coming out Enslaved look like it might be what i have been looking for in a game. Where the characters are created first then game is created from there such as Heavenly Sword.
So my hope are high for this game and i would recommend you give it a shot when it comes out
....
For some reason, your hate makes me want to go play the game...hehe?
No insult intended
Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin
I know this is an old post, but I was just browsing your news feed after watching Awesome Reach (Which I enjoyed by the by)
I wouldn't say characters everything, sure, video game characters are as cliche as action movie heroes these days; the all American hero, the disgruntled maverick cop, or the whiny "outcast" antihero factory line produced characters are all there. But I don't think you should brood too much on that. To use a classic example, DOOM. The hero in that doesn't even matter, it's not even a particularly challenging game, but it IS fun and at the end of the day, that's what counts.
I suppose story-driven games need character development, but even then, look at Half-Life (not an award winner on story by any means, but bless them they try). Gordon Freeman doesn't even speak in that, and I can't pretend to find Barney or Alix particularly endearing either, but the gameplay stops me from giving too shakes in the long run. Or if you're into the RPG scene, which I dabble in, FFVII's characters speak in text, what's to make a character likeable there. (Though I, like many others am guilty of applying the blatant 'black guy' stereotype to Barrett)
I'm not trying to call bullshit, I don't think your points unreasonable, but at the end of the day, regardless of story, if the gameplay is good, fuck it. Obviously the gameplay in alot of story driven games isn't, which is a damn shame.
That is the end of my worthless internet opinion, thank you for reading, and to all a good night.
Oh my god you are so right.... hahaha I laugh at your redrawn faces of Sengoku Basara characters :D
Exactly! If you don't have likeable characters, it's like your just along for the ride, a boring ride because there is nothing about the characters you can relate to or like about. A detatchment from the cast results in a detatchment from the story and world for me at least.
What has happen to giving characters personality? I hate :-| characters.
dude ur like :By the way Sengoku Basara is totally fun you should play it ehehehehe sorry tom
ur like a minion :D
oh and btw ur movies r really gd eheheheheh sorry ar--ego
Its to be expected that this game has a shitty story line. 1.) Its history gone bat shit crazy, 2.) (more importantly) its capcom, asking them to make a good game is like asking them to stick their dicks in a lawn mower, you think it might happen, but trust me, it wont. I do agree that the pre rendered images are boring, at least there is some emotion in the cutscenes. Then again, Japanese faces are, for lack of a better term, boring. They are not very interesting to make. Still inexcusable.
If I had the reigns to the damn series or something of the like I would make the gameplay be a bit more interesting and the story line more about one person, that way, making a series. But enough on that bit. At least the game isn't utter crap (unlike devil kings which I will say no more on). I have two questions for you: Which is your favorite character and do you plan to make a spoof animation on this as well?
(By the way, Masamune's face cracks me up the most, good on ya)
RYNOL
You are now the most favorited person on NG.
IMO you're overrated. I like your stuff, in fact it's hilarious. But TBH you don't deserve the most favorites on NG. Still, you should be proud. :)
