Your right.Characters are not likeable anymore.I remember earthworm jim,and a few others.

you do have a point about bland cgi characters..but come on ego, some of us find a good story is one of the few motivating factors in getting though most of today's games. (which are also admittedly few and far between..they should put even MORE effort into story)

Your justification could just as easily be a justification for making a better game instead of slapping story duct tape on the cracks of a shitty game so you can "get through" it. It's really depressing that we have a whole culture of gamers who grit their teeth and play shitty modern games just because they have been and always will be a "gamer." Movies are stories, games are games.

They look like they need anti-depressants, or something

It's Sengoku Basara. The player doesn't give a fuck. All that matters is that his team looks badass.

Dude I agree, and oft lately it feels like they are just pumping out Bland Recreations of the same stuff. Seriously, I'm tired of 50 million Space and Modern shooters. If your going to make a shooter, try going in between those lines or hell put it in an alternate dimension or something. I feel like the industry is a factory line, and it keep making the same thing over and over. Same game different face, and as you stated all the faces are :-| with tiny variations that are barely noticeable. It's gotten to a point where I'm looking back for new stuff to play.

I think strong gameplay and story generally makes a better experience, but you don't always need a story...portal, mario games, etc. If you have characters with dialogue and personalities however, I strongly feel there should be an emphasis on a good story.

opinions are opinions, I guess we just disagree. *tips hat*

I think developers have the delusion that gaming has evolved to a point where they can simulate life, or make you feel like you're really "in the game," but modern tactics that attempt at doing so just alienate the player even more. There was much more charm in not having to deal with what a writer told you about the character. Instead you used your imagination to put what the game gave you about a character to good use. Perhaps allowing the player to indeed get "in the game" requires the player feel a little like he's writing the story himself instead of having the story shoved in his face, telling him everything he's doing in the game doesn't REALLY matter because mister samurai dude was going to do jumpflips and save the world anyway.

I understand the value and comfort a sense of direction has for a player, especially when they are introduced to a character who surely has thoughts and emotions, but my point is that there are other ways to do it instead of doing everything for the player.

I'm arguing just to argue man I care a lot about the issue so I don't mean any disrespect to you 'cause you're the man.

Can't we just go back to saving princesses. I mean geez.

Live a little be a gypsy get around (get around) get your feet up off the ground, live a little get around

Also we NEED people drawing blank characters with cool clothes- this way the children of the land can be inspired to draw themselves minus anything they're insecure about, pick a combination of cool clothes they've seen on game characters, post them on DeviantArt and call them OCs. Think of the children!

:l

It could be worse. Like aids worse.

Oh, and Kula World is the best game ever hands down. It doesn't get any better than a beachball rolling around on a maze in the sky.

I should draw an angry face on that ball

I agree with you here. Lots of newer games seem to do that these days. Another thing I can't stand is when people make games that only look pretty. I'm playing a game for the game, if people want to make it look nice, GREAT but PLEASE leave the pretty graphics until after you've made a fun gameplay experience I'm tired of shittyness.

A great example of this is Final Fantasy 13. FF13 looks great! Too bad I felt like I was in the most linear game of all time! Its like it was even aware that it had boring gameplay because of its shitty "xbox plays the game for you while you watch" feature. Why would I want the game to play for me? Do you want the game more cinematic? This isn't a good enough excuse for shitty gameplay.

You know there is a problem when I put down a mainstream game from only this year to play a game a million times better like Tetris. Tetris is fuckin' cash man.

In conclusion,
Less gloss, more game!

Where is Sanada Yukimura ?

Cliche`s are a bitch

Amen good sir.

Can we just agree to play old school games for the rest of our lives?

Those characters seem a bit generic and quite similar to a couple other japanese-based ones. It's hardlyanything to get excited about. A story is always nice, but not very appealing if the characters and gameplay are shit. Graphics don't even really matter at all unless it turns out being a complete eye sore to make you go blind.

let's all play dot fighter

The next stage is making cheap copies of Master Chief in every game.
